The original Living Room, with dark wood paneling and 19-foot ceilings, received a modern makeover with a fresh coat of chalk-white paint, making the paneling detail work come alive. Emser Tile herringbone floors run throughout, with a basketweave mosaic surrounding the fireplace and an Emser faux stone porcelain slab adorning the hearth. Bold, dramatic elements appear, like a breathtaking John Richard chandelier and sensuous Karastan rug. Luxurious Eichholtz furniture sets the modern Montauk tone in the room, with unexpected whimsical pieces like custom swing chairs that hang from the two-story ceiling. The overall effect is daring and contemporary, with a nod to traditionalism that honors the heritage of the home.
When I founded Jennifer Farrell Designs in 2001, my goal was to balance an inventive flair for the theatric with a sense of cozy comfort, to create inspired living. Over the last 20 years, I’ve expanded that dream, to find a special intersection where private home life meets public dream life. By hosting and designing on television shows, and by creating showcase home experiences, I’ve enjoyed merging the worlds of publicly created dream design and personal home lifestyle.
I’ve had a somewhat unique journey over the last two decades, balancing my television persona with my interior design career. Sometimes the two have been mutually supportive, sometimes a bit at odds. I think the key moments that changed my trajectory were when my design projects began to be featured on nationally recognized design tours, like Dwell on Design and The Venice Garden and Home Tour. I found myself along side internationally revered architects and designers like Marmol/Radziner, Jay Griffith, William Baker, and other game changers who have inspired me over the years. Having my work exhibited alongside theirs definitely helped evolve the way I’m viewed in the design industry.
My aesthetic style is all about bold, clean drama, with a nod to the past, present, and future of design. That translates in different ways on different projects, but I’m hoping to capture the essence of that thought at Calibu Vineyard. I’m bringing in signature statement pieces that are the ultimate in bespoke design – like designer tile from Emser and couture furnishings from Hector Landgrave Furniture – and marrying those items with leading-edge technology, like smart appliances from Monogram and energy-efficient luxury
lighting from Lamps Plus. Then I get to take that one step further with future-forward technology, like a photo-realistic 3D immersible visualization of the entire project, as created by Visualizer+. The balance of heirloom quality with state-of-the-art technology is an exciting balance for me, and one I’m relishing while creating Calibu Vineyard.
